In celebration of Vesak Day, we’re inviting you to host your very own Curry for Canines event! Gather your friends and family, cook up a feast, and do some fur-nomenal fundraising for Dogstar. With Curry for Canines, you can explore the rich flavours of Sri Lankan cuisine while embracing the community, charity, and compassion at the heart of Vesak.

2. Pick a date in May to host your meal.
3. Invite guests round for dinner and ask for donations towards Dogstar's work.
4. Send in your donations by June 30th and, if you raise £30 or more, you will receive an authentic Sri Lankan spoon as a thank you!
What is Vesak?
Vesak is Sri Lanka's most important Buddhist festival. It celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha through acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion for all living beings.

Dogstar has chosen May for Curry for Canines because it aligns with Vesak, which falls on May 12th this year. However, you are welcome to choose any day in May to host your fundraiser. This festival is a time for kindness, generosity, and compassion, making it the perfect opportunity to come together, share a meal, and make a difference for Sri Lanka’s street dogs.
Not at all! Please choose any date in May that is convenient for you – you’ll still be embracing the spirit of the festival while raising vital funds for Dogstar.
Absolutely! We want everyone to be able to take part in Curry for Canines in a way that works for them. Our recipes are just suggestions – if you have your own authentic Sri Lankan or Sri Lankan-inspired dishes in mind, please feel free to make these instead. We encourage you to keep the Sri Lankan aspect where possible, but the most important thing is coming together to share a meal and support Dogstar.
Yes! In keeping with Vesak’s values of non-violence and compassion, all the recipes are vegetarian with plant based alternatives.
There’s no minimum amount – every donation, big or small, is truly appreciated and makes a real difference for Sri Lanka’s street dogs and cats. However, as a special thank you, anyone who raises £30 or more will receive an authentic Sri Lankan spoon as a little gift from us.
Please send in your donations by June 30th 2025. This will ensure Dogstar can put your generous contributions to work as soon as possible, helping improve the lives of Sri Lanka’s street dogs and cats. Thank you for your suppawt!
We will start sending out authentic Sri Lankan spoons after the June 30th donation deadline. We’ll contact everyone who qualifies for the gift to collect postal addresses, so please keep an eye on your emails. Your special thank you gift will be on its way as soon as possible!
Before May, we will contact participants with an online link to pay in your fundraising. Alternatively, you may wish to set up a JustGiving page which you can do here. Connect your page to Dogstar Foundation and we will automatically receive your contributions.
