Introducing Our New Electric Tuk-Tuks

We’re excited to announce that, with your incredible support, we’ve added two electric tuk-tuks to the Dogstar fleet! This is a milestone that will have a hugely paw-sitive impact on the way we operate, ensuring a greener and more efficient approach to our mission.

Our dedicated Head Feeder Taru has been putting these new vehicles to the test on the Meals on Three Wheels feeding rounds – and he’s absolutely amazed at the difference! The electric tuk-tuks guarantee:

• Faster meal deliveries
• Less noise and stress for the dogs
• Zero fuel worries
• More space for food and supplies
• Fewer trips, smoother rides and happier tails!

Why are we going electric?

You may remember that in 2022, Sri Lanka faced a severe financial crisis, which led to months of fuel shortages and daily power cuts. These challenges severely impacted our daily dog feeding, spay/neuter and vaccination programmes.

That’s when we made a promise: never again would fuel shortages prevent us from helping animals in need.

In 2023, thanks to the amazing support of our Team Dogstar family, we took a significant step towards sustainability by installing solar panels on our surgery truck. And now, with these electric tuk-tuks, we are taking another huge leap forward.

What makes these electric tuk-tuks so special?

What’s next?

Currently, we’re charging these tuk-tuks partly using the solar panels on our office roof. But in the future, we plan to install onboard solar roof systems, allowing them to run entirely on sunlight!
